What we do

We provide multiple trainings to empower local professionals in under-resourced communities and (post)conflict areas by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and tools to make a change in the lives of the kids and youth-at risk they work with.

Teacher training

Schools in under-resourced communities and (post)conflict areas can be ill equipped, which limits teachers in resources of offering adequate support to their students. In our teacher trainings we are not only providing teachers with skills and knowledge about teaching, basic counselling, trauma-support and self-care, but we also equip the schools with basic materials so they can actively work on creating a safer school environment.

Teaching techniques

In this 3-part cultural sensitive teaching techniques training local school teams will be provided with practical knowledge and tools to create a positive and lifelong impact on student learning. The training is highly practical and interactive, and is divided in (1) learning the essential classroom-environment techniques, (2) helping students with different kinds of learning techniques and (3) self-care for teachers techniques.  The tools offered in this training are classroom tested and research-based, for a variety of grade levels and subject areas.

Trauma-support for teachers

In this 5-part trauma-support training local school teams will be trained in how to be a trauma-supportive school system to help their (traumatized) students. Teachers will get a very practical and visual explanation about how trauma works in the brain and body, how to understand and recognize it in their students, and they will be provided with practical skills to work with traumatized children and youth. The goal of this training is to equip schools with the right tools so they can be a safe space for their students, in which the students can heal and develop in healthy ways.

Education in emergencies

In this training local school teams will be trained in how to provide education in emergency situations. Teachers will learn about issues related to emergencies; regarding child protection, safeguarding, gender, and cultural aspects. Teachers will be equipped with skills in how they can contribute to children's physical and psychological protection and wellbeing in difficult times, and learn different approaches in how to offer quality teaching and support for children, parents, and their community.

Child protection for teachers

In this training local teachers will learn how to protect children from violence, exploitation and trauma. In this training we will explore together what can be done to protect children at risk, and how teachers can support them in their recovery. This training aims to empower teachers in how to recognize signs of abuse and neglect, how to use different strategies to foster resilience in children, and how to defend children's rights. Besides these practical skills teachers will gain knowledge and awareness on children’s rights violations.

Intervention implementation

Train for Change helps organizations and schools with implementing new interventions, or finetuning and elaborating the existing ones. For all the interventions we can help implement, we offer a train-the-trainer workshop, so local teams are not only learning how to provide the intervention, but can also pass on their knowledge and skills to future team-members. The interventions we can help implement focus on processing trauma, prevention of gender based violence, and parent involvement. After receiving a training on how to implement the intervention, the trainees will also be provided with the materials to start implementing the intervention at their school or organization.

The aim of the intervention is to help girls deal with these difficulties and empower them.
